Run for the Kids Road Closure

Herald Sun/ Transurban Run for the Kids is on Sunday 17 March 2024 and we want to ensure that you?re aware of the impact the event may have on you. On 17 March, there will be several road closures around the Docklands precinct to manage participant and spectator movements during the event. As these road closures are around the ferry Melbourne Ferry Terminal it will impact ferry passengers on the morning of Sunday 17 March 2024. The ferry terminal is still accessible to everyone, however, there are designated entry points that all passengers should be aware of before travelling on this day.

Herald Sun/ Transurban Run for the Kids is on Sunday 17 March 2024 and we want to ensure that you?re aware of the impact the event may have on you. On 17 March, there will be several road closures to manage participant and spectator movements during the event. The objective is to close roads for the shortest possible time, however, there will be a significant impact on traffic in and around the course during the event.
The westbound carriageway of Footscray Road will be closed from 2:30 am – 12 midday between Dudley Street / Docklands Drive and the Bolte Bridge on-ramp. The Footscray Road carriageway will operate at a reduced capacity with speed reductions in both directions from 2:30 am – 12 midday. Pearl River Road and Little Docklands Drive will be closed at Footscray Road from 2:30 am – 12 midday. Waterfront Way will be closed at Footscray Road from 7:30 am – 10.30 am.
There will be limited local access into and out of New Quay/Waterfront City via Docklands Drive / Dudley Street before 7:30 am, between races from 9:00 am – 9:20 am and then after 10:30 am. There will be restricted access and delays into/out of Docklands Drive via Footscray Road when runners are crossing this intersection. Access will be facilitated by traffic controllers and Victoria Police.
Please expect delays in the morning when exiting/entering Docklands Drive.
Please see below specific considerations that relate to the Victoria Harbour Precinct: 1:30 am ? 2:30 pm
Harbour Esplanade will be closed from 1:30 am until 2:30 pm in both directions from Charles Grimes Bridge to Footscray Rd. From 1:30 am there will be no access to Docklands and Victoria Harbour using Charles Grimes Bridge. The Charles Grimes Bridge closure will remain in place until 2.30 pm.
Victoria Harbour will be accessible for local traffic throughout, via Bourke Street only. Traffic controllers will be on location to manage access requirements. Collins Street will be closed in both directions between Navigation Drive and Spencer Street.
